Welcome

[edit]

Hello Abubakar A Gwanki! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:

It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

Thank you for your improvements to the Hausa phrasebook :) Best wishes ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:49, 7 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but please have a look at these edit summaries

1, 2, 3. The third one is the most important, but the link in it is wrong. Please look at Wikivoyage:Quick small city article template. When you start a new city article, please copy the contents of that page into a blank page. Thanks!

All the best,

Hi. Nice to see you again, and thanks for starting that article. At this early stage, it doesn't look promising, though. I hope you add some specifics to "Agricultural Tours", "Rural landscape" and "Fulani Cultural Sites," because so far, they aren't close to useful listings, and I was thinking that the article should be merged and redirected somewhere until I noticed that you had started it only 3 days ago.

Best,

Airport details belong only in the article for the city that the airport serves directly -- see WV: AIRPORTS. Ground Zero (talk) 13:13, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Don't use Google location codes or default address info

[edit]

What Wikivoyage uses is street addresses and geocoding. If there is no street address, leave that tab blank. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:03, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

New editing event?

[edit]

@Gwanki, hello again! Is there a new editing event for Nigeria, or are you and User:A Sulaiman Z just inspired to do some more work here? If there is a new editing event, please give us the URL of the organizing page and let us know who the main organizer is. Thanks!

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:39, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello User:Ikan Kekek,

Yes, we have a new Wikimedia-supported event under the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria – Kano Network. You can view the organizing page here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Wikimedia_UG_Nigeria_Grants/Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria_Community_Support_Fund/WUGN_Kano_Network/Content_Expansion_and_Improvement_on_Wikivoyage_in_Kano_State

The project is organized by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria – Kano Network, and the main organizer is Abubakar Ali (User:Gwanki).

Thank you for your interest and support.

Best regards, -Gwanki (talk) 12:13, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello, just a note for future projects – per Wikivoyage:Welcome, event organizers, all grants require a community notification posted on the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub at least a few weeks before the event. I don't think it's too late to leave a message explaining the basics at the moment – I assume you're editing mainly Kano State articles? All the best, //shb (t | c | m) 12:19, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello @SHB2000, Thank you for the reminder.

The project is based in Kano State, but we also plan to expand coverage to neighbouring states. We will post a notification on the Wikivoyage:Travellers' pub shortly. We appreciate your guidance. Best regards, --Gwanki (talk) 12:26, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Perfect; thanks so much for cooperating! :) //shb (t | c | m) 12:35, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
