Hello, Rio65trio! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. And thanks for your edits so far! Default address info
[edit]Hi, Rio65trio, and thanks for your great, diligent work in adding lots of interesting listings to articles!
Fairly small thing, but on Wikivoyage, we omit default address information that doesn't help a person find an establishment. For example, 81667 München would be omitted. You might want to poke around in Wikivoyage:Manual of style and linked pages at your leisure some time. Meanwhile, please continue adding information!
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:10, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ikan Kekek, thanks for your advice. I just thought that when giving the full address, people can easily select the text and google it by right mouse click (e.g. for maps). Without the postcode it is not clear which street is meant, as there are often multiple streets with the same name in one country, or even in one city. For example, Berlin has 8 different streets named "Berliner Straße". But I can omit this, no problem!
Kind regards, --Rio65trio (talk) 02:38, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- If there's more than one street of the same name in a city, I think the postcode is indeed needed, and the "content" tab should also emphasize that this is the Berliner Straße in such-and-such a neighborhood, not any of the others. I also understand your argument, and maybe it's right. I thought I remembered a discussion in Wikivoyage talk:Listings. I can't find it, but by all means start a new one. I think it's better to have too much information than not enough. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:38, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing to that discussion, I will look it up and possibly start a new one. --Rio65trio (talk) 17:40, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
Temporary account IP viewer
[edit]Hello, Rio65trio.
A recent change now means that all IP addresses are no longer visible to most ordinary users. However, as per WMF policy, any user who has made at least 300 edits with an account older than 6 months may request the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) permission to view IP addresses of all temporary accounts for up to 90 days. You are receiving this mass message because your account is autopatrolled, or has patroller and/or template editor permissions, and have over 300 edits, and thus are likely eligible to request this permission.
Guidelines surrounding the use of the tool can be found at Wikivoyage:Temporary account IP viewer; if granted, you must also accept the WMF policy in your preferences.
TAIV permissions can be requested at Wikivoyage:Temporary account IP viewer/Requests, or on any admin's talk page.
