ello, Challenger l! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

You're doing a bang-up job on the Oakland article. We like to see that kind of thing. Keep up the good work, Wikivoyager.

Thanks! I play on getting the Oakland page nice and shipshape, since I've lived here for six years and in the area for nearly 40. :-)

I wanted to drop you another note thanking you for the excellent work on Oakland. While some of your requests for feedback may go unanswered, I think it's because of a lack of other editors who know the city, and because your edits are already spot on and thus don't need more general style/policy-related feedback. Your work is very much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed ;) I have a certain penchant for touring underappreciated/feared parts of the U.S., and hope I get to take advantage of the guide some day. Although my planned Africa trip this summer will likely clean me out of disposable income for some time! --Peter Talk 17:25, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's been a while since someone sent kudos your way, but you've done a great job with the Berkeley (California) and Oakland articles, and it definitely hasn't gone unnoticed. Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:03, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Destination of the Month Nomination

[edit]

Hi, L. Challenger. I hope you're still around, and I want to let you know that I just nominated Oakland for Destination of the Month. Please have a look at the nomination here: Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:26, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Holy doughnuts - RL had me under proverbial lock and key for a good while there! That's... amazing news! L. Challenger (talk) 22:14, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Glad to have you back. There's been a consensus to feature Oakland, and it's very well-deserved. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:34, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
And! I found a public domain image that is a BIG improvement for the main page, had an explicit CC0 on it and everything. L. Challenger (talk) 22:29, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Hi, L. Challenger. There's a current discussion in the last section of Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates/Banners about possible banners for the DotM feature of Oakland. I don't like any of the 3 banners that have been proposed so far. Would you like to try your hand at a better one? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:59, 16 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oakland edits

[edit]

Hi, Challenger l! I'm on the road and not spending as much time on Wikivoyage, but if you don't agree with a lot of the edits the IP editor made, it might be best to say why on Talk:Oakland, because the edits are substantive and not obviously tendentious, spam, vandalism or touting. You could ask whether there is any objection to changing or reverting them in x or y way that you think best. If none are raised, you could then edit at will, and if the IP editor wants to engage in discussion, have a conversation with him/her on the talk page. Temporary account IP viewer

[edit]

Hello, Challenger l.

A recent change now means that all IP addresses are no longer visible to most ordinary users. However, as per WMF policy, any user who has made at least 300 edits with an account older than 6 months may request the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) permission to view IP addresses of all temporary accounts for up to 90 days. You are receiving this mass message because your account is autopatrolled, or has patroller and/or template editor permissions, and have over 300 edits, and thus are likely eligible to request this permission.

Guidelines surrounding the use of the tool can be found at Wikivoyage:Temporary account IP viewer; if granted, you must also accept the WMF policy in your preferences.

TAIV permissions can be requested at Wikivoyage:Temporary account IP viewer/Requests, or on any admin's talk page.
