Unubi is a rural area in Nnewi South Local Government in Anambra State.

Unubi is among the Igbo speaking communities in South Eastern Region of Nigeria. There are three main villages in Unubi: Etitinabo, Nkwukwo and Isimba. Isimba was sub-divided into: Isiokwe, Agbogwugwu and Akwueke now known as Akwuchukwu. Unubi shares boundaries with: Ezinifite, Uga and Akwaihedi.

Climate

Unubi like many other rural communities in South Eastern Region of Nigeria has two seasonal climatic conditions, the rainy and dry season with shot spell of harmattan. The dry season start from November to March while the rainy season starts from April to October. Harmattan starts from December to January. Unubi community suffers the menace of erosion and the impact of climate change is also affects the climate of Unubi.

Agriculture

Agriculture is a renowned practice where there is production of various farm produce: yam, cassava, plantain, maize, fruits. Agricultural practice is a major source of income for the people of Unubi.

You can get to Unubi by air through plane from the nearest airport which is Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri.

By road transportation through bus or other means of road transport, one can access Unubi through Ekwulobia, Onitsha or Awka. You can get to Unubi by bus or shuttle from any part of Anambra State.

The New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) is the most prominent. Celebrated annually, it marks the beginning of yam harvesting, one of the town’s most important crops. During the festival, the Igwe or elders bless the new yams before they are eaten, symbolizing gratitude to the gods and ancestors for a bountiful harvest. Feasting, dancing, and communal prayers are common, and residents often invite friends and family to join in the celebrations.

Afọ Unubi is a popular and only market in Unubi which is situated in the entrance of the village. People from neighbouring communities come to the market on afọ days to buy and sell their wares especially farm produce.

Njide foods is a popular food vendor in the Afọr market, she makes and sells different dishes.

Udoka stores is located at Afọr market square where people sit, drink and have a nice time.
