Border crossing to Canada is closed

[edit]

I do not visit Wikivoyage very often, and am not very familiar with how it works. Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears to me that there is not much emphasis on displaying timely information in regards to natural disasters, such as the current floods. I saw somewhere that Sumas is under evacuation order, or alert, or warning, or something to this affect. I am not sure if anyone is reading this talk-page?

Thanks for any comments, ~2025-26697-99 (talk) 15:22, 13 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you notice any short-term closures that are not yet reflected in a WV article, don't hesitate to plunge forward and add a Template:Cautionbox note!
Broadly speaking, WV isn't set up to stay to-the-day current on rapidly developing events, like short-term closures from the Dec 2025 flooding. It affected practically all of western Washington for a day or two, but is quickly getting cleaned up at the places most relevant for travelers (i.e., Seattle metro and the interstates).
I'm following local news on the event. I'm waiting to see what reopens in the next few days and what will stay closed for longer, and intend to make updates as the longer-term implications are known. But I appreciate help from anyone else following the news too! Gerode (talk) 17:00, 13 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gerode, thanks for replying.
I am visiting Washington at the moment. I try to listen to the news, but it is confusing. Some of the local TV stations do not even mention the flooding in Sumas, but I am still receiving frequent alerts on my phone. I heard on the TV that Burlington has issued an evacuation order, but the Wikivoyage article does not mention it. I understand from listening to the forecasts that this situation in Washington and South West Oregon is far from over. ~2025-26697-99 (talk) 20:36, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, information is still coming out. Burlington and Mount Vernon are a mess, and I presume Sedro-Woolley and La Conner are as well. It has also become widely known today that US-2 will likely require an extended closure. BC was also hit hard, but I don't have as close an ear to that. I'll start making updates tonight for places that I suspect will not be reopened promptly. Gerode (talk) 01:31, 15 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
