The Saharan Chad is the vast region in the north of Chad.

[edit]- 1 Ennedi Plateau — a sandstone plateau in the east of Saharan Chad, impossibly remote, but very beautiful. The natural and cultural landscape of the Ennedi Massif has been inscribed as
UNESCO World Heritage Site
- 2 Tibesti Mountains – a volcanic mountain range that spans from northern Chad to southern Libya. Suicidally remote, but insanely mindblowing.
- 3 Lakes of Ounianga - a mass series of complex lakes in the extreme desert setting.
Understand
[edit]The Saharan region covers roughly the northern third of Chad, including Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti Prefecture along with the northern parts of Kanem, Batha, and Biltine prefectures. Much of this area receives only traces of rain during the entire year. Scattered small oases and occasional wells provide water for a few date palms or small plots of millet and garden crops. In the north, the average daily maximum temperature is about 32 °C during January, the coolest month of the year, and a vicious 45 °C during May, the hottest month.
Get in
[edit]There are no regular domestic flights, but international airplanes offer flights to and from Chad. Due to rising safety concerns, air Tchad flights were suspended.
The government of Chad had suspended international flights by the national flag carrier airline, Toumaï Air Tchad, after an IATA safety audit revealed a series of problems. The airline had just one aircraft left, a Fokker 28, after losing its leased Boeing 737-200 to creditors. The suspension was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
The only airport of significance within the region is Faya-Largeau Airport (FYT IATA) in Faya. There are regular services from the capital N'Djamena.
