Igala is the indigenous language of the Igala ethnic group which spread across Kogi, Enugu, Anambra, Delta and Benue States of Nigeria. It is classified as a Yoruboid language with over 1 million native speakers in the world .

Pronunciation guide

a in ala (sheep) as [ah] like "a" in apple

e in egbe (grass) [a] like “a” in skate

ẹ in ẹgẹ (egg) [eh] like the “e” in elephant (dot written)

i in imọ (nose) [e] like "I" in information

o in ogbo (old age) [o] like the "o" in open

ọ in ọdọ (year)

u in uchu (yam)
