Gersbach is a high-altitude resort and district of Schopfheim on a scenic plateau (800 m–1,17 0m) in the Southern Black Forest.
Understand
[edit]Gersbach is not your typical Black Forest clock-making town; its history is rooted in glassmaking, charcoal burning, and silver mining. Today, it is a prime example of an intact mountain village. Its location offers panoramic views of the Swiss Alps and the Rhine Valley. The village gained international recognition by winning the European Gold Medal for rural development in 2004.
Get in
[edit]By car
[edit]Reached via winding mountain roads from Schopfheim (approx. 15 km) or through the scenic Wehratal from the south. It is about an hour's drive from Basel or Freiburg.
By bus
[edit]Bus line 7352 connects Gersbach with the Schopfheim train station (S-Bahn connection to Basel/Lörrach). Service is less frequent on weekends.
Get around
[edit]The village itself is small enough to explore on foot. For the surrounding hiking trails and the bison enclosure, sturdy walking shoes are essential. As part of Schopfheim, overnight guests receive the KONUS Card for free local public transport.
