    Gembu is a town in North East Nigeria, Nigeria. It is the headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area, and a border town situated on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State. The Mambilla Plateau is a scenic highland area known for its cool weather, green hills, and peaceful environment. It is one of the highest places in Nigeria and a great destination for nature lovers.

    It is believed that the inhabitants of the Mambilla Region are descendants of the Bantu ancestors. They constitute the Bantu people who stayed after the Bantu expansion across Africa. Gembu is close to the border separating Nigeria and Cameroon.

    Gembu is the highest point in Nigeria. The Mambilla Plateau sits over 1,500 meters above sea level. The land is good for tea and cattle farming. Gembu is the main town on the plateau.

    You can reach Gembu by road from Jalingo or Yola. The roads are winding and steep, so travel with care. Jalingo, which is the capital city, is linked by different road networks to other towns and states. There are different companies that provide shuttle services from towns in other parts of the country to Jalingo. The cost of travelling to Jalingo by road from locations in the Northern part of Nigeria is around ₦4,000, and from locations in the southern part is around ₦8,000.
