Other destinations
[edit]- 1 Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). Krkonoše is a mountain range located along the border to Poland. The highest peak, Sněžka (Polish: Śnieżka, German: Schneekoppe; 1,603 m), is the Czech highest point. The oldest Czech national park was founded there in 1963.
- 2 Český Ráj (Czech Paradise). A beautiful landscape with sandstone rocks, karst areas and cultural heritage (castles, chateaus and castle ruins).
- 3 Prachovské skály (Prachov Rocks). Rock blocks, towers and pillars formed by the water and wind into a shape of rock "city".
- 4 Orlické hory (Eagle Mountains). A mountain range in northeastern Bohemia along the Polish border.
- 5 Broumovsko. Protected landscape area near city of Broumov. Interesting sandstone rock areas include Adršpach-Teplice Rock Town and Broumovské walls.
- 6 Hanička artillery fortress (Tvrz Hanička) (It is not possible to arrive to the museum by car, parking is at 50.187135 N, 16.509408 E. From the parking lot take the marked tourist route (red) in the direction Anenský vrch, an approximate walking distance between the parking and the fortress is 20-30 min.), ☏ +420 491 616 998, [email protected]. In the 1970s, Hanička was intended to be rebuilt into a nuclear bunker and the construction works lasted until 1993, but they were never completed. You can take a guided tour through some of the objects. The Educational Trail "Fortification of Rokytnice and surroundings" runs through the museum area and provides information about the fortifications and their history in Czech, Polish and English. 80 Kč (reduced 40 Kč).

Get in
[edit]Get around
[edit]There is a modern corridor rail Praha-Ostrava-Brno-Wien going through the region. Pardubice, Choceň, Ústí nad Orlicí, Česká Třebová and Svitavy lie on the track, however most modern IC and EC trains stop only in Pardubice and Česká Třebová. To visit all other mentioned towns, you have to take either rychlík (R) or osobní/spěšný vlak (Os/Sp) trains. Chrudim lies on the rail connecting Pardubice and Jihlava. There are many minor local rails in the region as well but with few exceptions it is not very convenient to use them.
