Cangas del Narcea is a village in the mountains of Asturias, 90 km southwest of the provincial capital Oviedo. "Cangas" means canyons and it's the largest village of a scattered collection of upland hamlets and summer cottages, with a combined population of 11,000 in 2025. These valleys flow out of the Picos de Europa, crossed by modern roads but they were never on a historic trade or pilgrimage route. Much of the area is protected as parkland.
