Calafat is a city in , Oltenia, southwestern Romania.

Calafat is a major crossing point between Romania and Bulgaria. The New Europe Bridge opened in 2013 between Calafat and Vidin (in Bulgaria) across the Danube River.

[edit]- 1 Calafat railway station. There are four slow Personal type trains daily from Craiova. The 107-km trip takes 3-3½ hours.
By bus
[edit]There are frequent buses from Craiova; travel time is around two hours. There is a bus that goes to Calafat from Vidin and Craiova.
By ferry
[edit]The ferry to/from Vidin used to run several times per day.
By car

- 2 Ciurumela Forest (Pădurea Ciurumela), Poiana Mare village. A forest reserve representing an old acacia forest.

- Take a walk towards the Calafat Beach, a small strip of pebbles and mud at the end of the Municipal Park:
- Celebrate the Days of Calafat, which take place yearly between 3/4-May and 6/7-May.
- 1 Portul Cultural Cetate. Old port on the Danube, now owned by the famous poet Mircea Dinescu, where he organizes various artistic and culinary events, including the Dival Film Festival. They offer accommodation and delicious food, but better contact them in advance.
