Cala d'Or is the main coastal resort in Migjorn de Mallorca, the southern region of that island, with a population in 2024 of 4100. It was built from the 1930s around three sea inlets: Cala Gran central, Cala Egos to the west and Cala Ferrera to the east.

See

[edit]
Entering town
  • 1 Santa Maria de la Mar is the parish church, built in 1956 in rustic style.
  • 2 Es Fortí is the shell of a small fortress built in 1740. Free to access 24 hours, there's nothing within but it offers a pleasant view of the coast.
  • 3 Torre de Porto Petro is a watchtower on a headland. The nearby "lighthouse" is just a metal tower for the harbour light.
  • 4 Parc natural de Mondragó is a protected area of coastline behind S’Aramador Cove.

Do

[edit]
  • Beaches are not this resort's strong point. Most of the shoreline is rock or cliff, with small patches of sand at the heads of each cove, overcrowded with parasols.
  • Golf: Robinson Cala Serena has a driving range. For a proper course head north to Vall d'Or.

Buy

[edit]
  • Lots of neighbourhood convenience stores.
  • Eroski supermarket is north end of town on Av Bienvenidos, open daily 09:00-21:30.
  • Hiper China is a big hardware store opposite Eroski, for anything you can't find anywhere else. It's open daily 09:15-21:00.
