Baise Voyage Tips and guide

Baise is a city in North Guangxi.

Baise is in a basin encircled by mountains. It has mild and dry winters, and hot and humid summers. In the mountains, the climate is somewhat cooler. Baise is worth visiting for its landscape, for being the spot for one of the most famous communist rebellions and for the numerous ethnic groups being represented here.

Baise is home to a large population of the Zhuang ethnic group, whose rich culture and traditions contribute to the region's unique charm.

Baise is divided into three areas in relation to the river: the Old City, Yinglong area and Longjing area. Youjiang River forms a U-shaped bend at the confluence with Chengbi River. The Old City is upstream of the bend, Yinglong is downstream, and Longjing is inside the U shape.

The older people around old streets speak Cantonese, while those in the suburbs speak Southwest Mandarin (西南官话) or Zhuang language (壮话), but the younger generation mainly speak Mandarin (普通话 pǔtōnghuà). As an increasing number of people speaking different languages (e.g. Zhuang, Pinghua and Mien) have moved into Baise, they have chosen Mandarin as their common language of communication.

The airport is a dual-use military and civilian airport, mainly for military services, so the airport and terminal are relatively small and there are no jet bridges. The VIP lounge is also quite simple, providing only bottled water and some snacks, no beds. It provides connection to Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Changsha, but due to the small passenger volume, flights are often adjusted every season, making the reachable cities uncertain. There is one airport bus line in operate connecting the airport and the city, the fare is ¥30. Since flights are limited to a few days a week, with a maximum of two flights per day, the bus schedule is based on flight departure and arrival times.

The bus to the city center picks up passengers at the airport at the time of each flight's arrival, while the bus from the city center to the airport departs two hours before flights departure. The airport bus departs from the Meng Zhi Yuan Hotel (梦之源大酒店) in the city center, stops at the Baise East Expressway tollgate, and takes about an hour to reach the airport.

There is only one bus (with approximately 40 seats) to pick up passengers, so if the bus is full and you can't get on, you'll have to take a taxi. Due to the small number of flights, there are relatively few taxis. Taxis generally do not use meters but quote prices directly. The relatively reasonable price is within ¥150.

• 23.888106.66052 Baise Railway Station (百色火车站), 103 Zhanqian Avenue, Youjiang District (右江区站前大道103号) (Bus 1, 3 and 8). It is located in the west of the city, at the end of Jinzhan Road. It serves as an important hub on the Nanning–Kunming railway (南昆铁路) and high-speed railway (南昆客运专线). Chief cities served include Nanning (1.5 hours by high-speed train), Guilin (4 hours by high-speed train, 7.5 hours by sleeper), Kunming (3 hours by high-speed train, 10 hours by sleeper) and Guangzhou (5 hours by high-speed train, 15 hours by sleeper). The exterior of the train station is divided into the arrival and departure levels. The arrival level has some convenience stores and fast food restaurants serving Guangxi cuisine, and the bus stop is on the arrival level. The entrance is in the middle of the departure level, with a ticket office on one side and a McDonald's on the other. The waiting hall in the station is divided into two floors, each floor has a different ticket gate. Please pay attention to which floor the ticket gate corresponds to on your ticket. The station is not big by modern Chinese standards, so there are only a few shops in the station selling local specialties, snacks, drinks, etc. (updated Oct 2025)

• 23.8797106.66443 Baise East Bus Terminal (百色城东客运中心), 108 Zhanqian Avenue, Youjiang District (右江区站前大道108号) (Bus 9, 10, 13, 16 and 25), ☏ +86 18877619515. It is located in the west of the city, 1 km (0.62 mi) from the railway station, operated by Chicheng (驰程) Group, and the biggest bus terminal in Baise. This bus terminal serves counties in Baise Prefecture, you can go to towns in other counties from here. Some buses are air-conditioned and some are not. The bus terminal is relatively large, so please pay attention to the ticket gate corresponding to your ticket to avoid going to the wrong one. There are some convenience stores in the station that also sell instant noodles and provide hot water. (updated Oct 2025)

The city has more than 20 bus routes, and are either ¥1 or ¥2 (with AC) per trip, basically covering three areas, you can use digital map of the city for the routes around the city.

Taxis and ride-hailing services are also available. E-bikes are very popular and are a good way to travel freely, you can find shared e-bikes on streets or rent from hotel or shops, but need to be careful to park in the marked parking spaces.

• Chuandong Heavenly Pit (穿洞天坑; Chuāndòng​ Tiānkēng), Leye County (乐业县; Lè​yè​xiàn) (18km from the city centre, Leye County Tourism Office has a shuttle bus to the pit). Karst pit formed about 2 million years ago. The cave is a couple of hundred meters wide and deep. You can walk down to the trees in the bottom and also into a side chamber. ¥50. 
• Daweishi Heavenly Pit, Leye County. Karst pit with underground rivers. 
• Naling Cave (纳灵洞; Nàlíngdòng), Lingyun County (凌云县; Líng​yún​xiàn. ¥50. 
• Shuiyuan Cave, Lingyun County. 
• Dashiwei Sky Hole Cluster Scenic Spot (大石围天坑). 
• Ganzhuang Mountain. 
• Luomei Lotus Cave. 

• Chengbi Lake. Recreational center with lakes, islands and mountains. Here you can sail and learn about the local ethnic groups. 
• Buliu River, Tianlin, Lingyun, Leye and Tian'er counties. River running through forests with plenty of fish, plants and birds. The Xianren Qiao (Fairy Bridge) world's longest natural arch--by a wide margin--spans the river. You can go boating on the river and through the arch. 
• Youjiang River, Tianlinwa Village, Youjiang District.

• Yuedong Meeting Hall (粤东会馆), 39 Jiefang Road, Youjiang District (右江区解放街39号) (Take bus no. 11 and get off at the Jiefang Road bus stop). Here you can learn more about the Baise rebellion. 
• Baise Uprising Martyrs Monument, Houlong Mountain, Youjiang District. 

• Jiangmei Debao Short Horse Paradise, Debao County. In this garden you can go horse riding and listen to the local music. These horses are really short, usually less than one meter.

The area grows lots of fruits. Try the mango, hawthorn, fennel and pekoe.

Dong Ethnicity Rice Wine（侗族米酒）: Rice wine is a common traditional beverage in the Guangxi region, and Dong Ethnicity Rice Wine in Baise is likely crafted from locally unique varieties of rice, offering a distinctive flavor.

Guangxi Sour Plum Soup（广西酸梅汤）: Sour Plum Soup is a refreshing and thirst-quenching beverage made from sour plums and rock sugar. In hot weather, it is a popular choice for cooling down.

Guangxi Longan Sugar Water（广西龙眼糖水）: Longan Sugar Water is a traditional sweet dessert in Guangxi, made by simmering fresh longan fruit with rock sugar and water, providing a delightful and sweet taste.
